Summary

As part of the development and design of the Alton Regional Multi-Modal Center (RMTC) that will serve as a multimodal passenger station to connect people arriving by passenger vehicles, taxies, bicycles, walking, and Madison County Transit (MCT) buses to Amtrak high-speed rail passenger train service between Chicago, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri, Kaskaskia Engineering Group, LLC (KEG) was tasked to develop the intersection, roadway, and access geometrics as part of the intersection design study for the project.

Project

KEG utilized the AutoTurn software package to prepare bus movement turning diagrams to ensure that the proposed geometrics would adequately accommodate the MCT buses utilizing the Alton RMTC station.  The design included access and parking lot design to accommodate MCT buses arriving and departing the station.

In addition to the roadway geometrics, KEG also assisted with the design of the sidewalks, shared-use paths, and on-street bicycle lanes and ensured that these facilities complied with the current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) design guidelines.
