Summary
Kaskaskia Engineering Group, LLC (KEG) served on the project team for the geotechnical design of an extension of IL 29 from IL Route 6 to Cedar Hills Drive near Mossville, Peoria County, Illinois. The proposed design consisted of a new dual highway and a two-lane Frontage Road extending from the existing terminus of IL Route 6 through farm fields to its intersection with Cedar Hills Drive. Along the alignment, two tributary crossings were required utilizing culverts; and one larger crossing over Dickison Creek required single-span bridges for the dual highway and Frontage Road.
Project
KEG’s responsibilities included subsurface soil and foundation recommendations for pavements and structure foundations, summarized in eight individual Structure Geotechnical Reports (SGRs) and a Roadway Geotechnical Report (RGR) for the entire alignment.
The geotechnical services included over 115 borings, as approved by IDOT District 4. KEG provided field exploration coordination and logging during the drilling of the borings. The RGR required a detailed subsurface soil profile along the entire alignment based on the new data. Additional geotechnical work included a slope stability analysis for a proposed cut slope along the proposed Frontage Road by IL Route 6 and SGRs for two culverts requiring replacement along Cedar Hills Drive.
