Summary
Kaskaskia Engineering Group, LLC (KEG) provided Phase II design engineering services to Transystems Corporation and the Cities of St. Charles and Geneva, Illinois for the Kautz Road reconstruction and widening project located in Kane County, Illinois.
Project
The Cities partnered in this project for the widening and reconstruction of Kautz Road, from Commerce Drive in St. Charles to Longest Drive in Geneva. The project received Surface Transportation Program grant funding in the amount of $2.5 million.
Proposed improvements included using a combination of an open trench and trenchless construction methods to install new water main, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer, including new water and sanitary service connections to each house. The Cities then performed a full-depth reconstruction of both streets with a new stone base, asphalt surfacing, and concrete ribbon curb.
KEG assisted in the Preliminary Design Engineering phase. KEG’s tasks included the preparation of Phase II cross-sections, and associated quantities, schedules, and Special Provisions; assisting in the design of special ditches; identifying subgrade remediation; and general updating of the Open Roads Model as the design was refined.
The project was completed under staged traffic conditions, with two primary stages of construction. The preliminary Design phase was complete in 2020. The final engineering design was completed in early 2022. Construction is anticipated to be complete in 2022.
