Summary
Kaskaskia Engineering Group, LLC (KEG) was contracted to perform full engineering design services for a Small Structure Pipe Lining Project on I-65 in Tippecanoe County, Indiana for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Crawfordsville District. The project is located 2.79 miles north of SR 43 (Str. No. CV I65-079-181.05). The purpose of the project was to restore structural integrity to the existing corrugated metal small structure (49” x 33”) by installing a Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) liner into the existing structure, as well as scour protection.
Project
The Hydraulic capacity needed to remain within the acceptable limits. Hydraulic analysis was provided. The east end of the pipe was smashed, reducing pipe flow by 50%; which was replaced prior to the liner installation. The project was in a rural area, with no impacts on jurisdictional streams, and impacts to nearby wetlands were reduced by balancing scour protection, constructability, and wetland features. Applicable permit applications for Section 401/404 were completed by ASI and submitted to INDOT.
I-65 is a 4-lane divided interstate, and traffic had to maintain at all times. KEG utilized intermittent shoulder closures with extended weekend closures to meet the INDOT Interstate Highways Congestion Policy.
KEG was responsible for the complete design plans, which included headwall details, maintenance of traffic (MOT), erosion and sediment control, engineers’ estimate, and specifications. Final plans were submitted to ASI and INDOT for their review and approval prior to the beginning of construction. This project was part of 5 CIPP Pipe Liner projects all designed by KEG that let under Contract R-40527
