Summary
Kaskaskia Engineering Group, LLC (KEG), as a subconsultant to Parsons Transportation Group, provided experienced Construction Supervisors for METRA’s Positive Train Control (PTC) project in their Chicago, Illinois, metropolitan service area. This project was in response to the US Congress’s mandate to the Federal Railroad Administration to improve the safety of the country’s passenger rail system. The PTC is a system that monitors the rail system and can reduce or stop trains as necessary to avoid life-threatening train crashes.
Project
METRA decided to install the PTC system within their jurisdiction with in-house crews who were already knowledgeable of their system, met all the required railroad safety training, and were available to expedite the required work. This was a unique situation having the owner take on the role of contractor.
KEG’s Construction Supervisors provided supervision, scheduling, and insured that quality control was maintained at all times. They documented all field work, provided reports to the owner on the crew’s progress, and offered recommended changes to the PTC designers when conditions in the field dictated revisions to the original design.
