Summary
Kaskaskia Engineering Group, LLC (KEG) performed traffic data collection services for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) in Districts 8 and 9. Each of the Districts evaluated their US and Illinois route and submitted corridors for improvement, consisting of a total of twenty signalized intersections along four corridors: IL 159 in Belleville, IL 157 in Caseyville, IL 158 in O’Fallon, and IL 1 in Carmi.
Project
During 2020 and 2021, KEG was tasked with performing traffic data collection, including continuous corridor traffic counts, turning movement traffic counts, and travel time runs.
The corridor volumes included 24-hour, 7-day continuous traffic counts collected utilizing tube traffic counters. Turning movement counts were collected at all twenty intersections using Miovision cameras.
The travel time runs were collected during AM peaks and PM peaks in both directions of each corridor using GPS2-LTE software. KEG used the data collected in the program PC-Travel 3 to develop reports showing the study summary, overall output statistics, speed/distance plot of runs, and time/space trajectory of runs. Subsequent travel time runs were conducted after the implementation of the new signal timings to assess the reduction in travel time of the retimed system.
The provided traffic data was used to refine signal coordination and timing along each corridor, which were implemented in late 2021.
