Summary
Kaskaskia Engineering Group, LLC (KEG) was selected by the United States Air Force to prepare design plans for the rehabilitation of West Winters Street from North Drive to Ward Drive located on Scott Air Force Base in St. Clair County, Illinois. The proposed design resulted in the improvement of approximately 2,024 feet of West Winters Drive.
Project
KEG’s responsibilities included geotechnical, hydraulic, and transportation services. KEG’s geotechnical scope included pavement borings along the existing street, including coring of the existing pavements for rehabilitation recommendations. KEG personnel coordinated and logged the borings and retained the soils and pavement core samples for additional testing. Photos of the existing pavement cores were obtained during field exploration. The pavement core materials and thicknesses were identified and measured. Geotechnical recommendations were summarized and submitted in a letter report.
KEG’s transportation scope involved the design of pavement patching and curb removal and replacement plans. Milling and resurfacing plans, as well as pavement marking plans, were also prepared as part of the improvements for West Winters Street.
KEG hydraulic scope involved evaluating the existing storm sewer system for the effects of recent commercial development adjacent to the roadway. This analysis resulted in the need to upgrade sections of the existing storm sewer system to accommodate the additional stormwater runoff generated by new commercial construction within the project limits. Storm sewer improvement plans were included as part of the final roadway project.
